Marlborough added to its extensive portfolio of student accommodation projects with a contract for Graham Construction at the University of Salford. The £81million development was designed to provide sustainable student living for 1,367 students and welcomed its first residents for the 2015/16 academic year.
The new student village, on the university’s Peel Park Campus, comprises three individual blocks up to 10 storeys high and is targeted to achieve a BREEAM ‘excellent’ rating. The state of the art residences provide ensuite bedrooms, Wi-Fi ready study spaces, generous reception and social areas including a gym, games zones and cinema rooms
Marlborough’s £1.8million package was to supply and install the brickwork and blockwork, including 1.2million bricks in a combination of 4 different brick types and with recessed detailing on some elevations. Work was carried out from a series of mast-climber access platforms provided to each elevation. Marlborough’s experience in this sector was invaluable in managing the logistical challenges presented by a project that is split into two separate sites with a requirement for high outputs and consistent quality throughout.
