The work comprises the masonry packages for the Town Centre Multi Storey Car Park, the Riverside Shopping Centre and the Kingsmeade Shopping Centre which will become the new Morrisons.
Marlborough will deliver 25,000m2 of blockwork and 350,000 bricks in a 30 week programme.
The £70 million Riverside Development will include 18 retail Units anchored by Marks and Spencer and Primark. In total, there will be over 190000 sq ft of retail space to complement and strengthen the town centre economy. The Multi Storey Car Park will provide over a 1000 parking spaces with retail and leisure units facing the river with a further 180 parking spaces being created under the Marks and Spencer store.
The Kingsmead site is being developed as a new 71500 sq ft Morrisons store and 2 additional retail units totalling 1400 sq ft.
The project award follows a number of high profile shopping centre awards for Marlborough. In 2014 Marlborough secured a £2.6 million blockwork package from Westfield for the new Bradford Broadway centre and a £2.2 million Brickwork and blockwork package from Willmott Dixon for Flemingate at Beverley.
“The main factors in the award were Marlborough’s 21 year track record in masonry and retail development, the approach to collaborative working and a secure financial position” said Mike Hampton, Business Development Director. Paul Donnelly, Managing Director added “Principal Contractors and developers are increasingly looking to the financial position of the Supply Chain. The Marlborough team has continually focused on delivering a strong financial performance and retaining a strong Balance sheet for the confidence of staff, suppliers and clients.”
